No stranger to helping others, Nancy
Macivor became a lawyer in 1993 after a successful administrative career in the nursing
field. She initially worked for a civil litigation boutique, specializing in hospital
defense. Her strong interpersonal and negotiating skills in addition to her interest in
the family eventually drew her to the practice family law.
She started her own firm in 1994 and today remains its sole practitioner. She became
increasingly frustrated with using the court process in her family law work because of the
cost to her clients, the uncertainty of the outcome and the detrimental effect that
disputed divorces had on children.
In her practice, Nancy keeps the creed, "Do no harm," front and center at all
times. It comes from her medical background, but it is an equally good creed for
practicing law. According to Nancy, the major advantage to the Collaborative Family Law
approach is clear. Instead of having to live with decisions made by a Judge, the parties
work with their lawyers to make their own decisions based on their needs and those of
their children. Everyone has the right to skilled, knowledgeable, and caring work from
their lawyer, and that is Nancys goal in working with her clients.
